Omar Amanat


Omar Amanat is a film producer and the founder of Tradescape Corporation, which was named one of the top 50 private companies in the U.S. before its sale to E*Trade. He is also a noted philanthropist and a board member of many charities and non-profit organizations. Since exiting the online brokerage industry in 2002, Mr. Amanat has dedicated his time and financial acumen to producing films that address important issues such as the genocide in Darfur and the impact of anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim attitudes on American life.

The Devil Came on Horseback

Written and directed by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg, The Devil Came on Horseback is a documentary that shows the genocide in Darfur through the photographs of former U.S. marine Brian Steidle. The film has received universal critical acclaim and been described as “beautifully made” and “exceptionally powerful.”

The Visitor

Written and directed by Thomas McCarthy (The Station Agent), The Visitor stars Richard Jenkins as a college professor who discovers a young immigrant couple living in his New York City apartment. The relationship he forges with the couple, Tarek and Zainab, brings about a personal transformation – and then Tarek runs afoul of Homeland Security.

Darfur Now

This fast-paced documentary feature profiles six individuals and their relationship to the Darfur crisis, including political activists, actor Don Cheadle, and a woman whose baby was killed by the Janjaweed. Written and directed by Ted Braun, Darfur Now was described by Roger Ebert as “instructive and disturbing.”

Smart People

Directed by Noam Murro and written by Mark Poirier, Smart People tells the story of a widowed professor who embarks on a new romance while struggling through familial issues with his son, daughter and ne’er-do-well brother. The Mysteries of Pittsburgh
